Heli Ski Lodges & Resorts – What Makes Them Special?

February 29, 2012 Last Frontier Heliskiing

An important part of any heli ski holiday is the lodgings in which you stay. Even with the greatest terrain, epic snow conditions, and great friends to share the experience with, if the lodgings and accommodation falls below standard it can greatly affect your trip. Here at Last Frontier we pride ourselves on offering a great all-round service, one that includes exceptional skiing opportunities, coupled with a stay that will even exceed the already high standard of Canadian hospitality.

So, what is it that we believe makes for great heli ski lodgings? Firstly, the accommodation. After spending so much time actively pursuing the epic lines of the day, we know that you need somewhere comfortable to rest your head, and your weary ski legs. Each of our lodgings provide the comfiest of beds, all with down duvets, to ensure a great night’s rest. And on-suite bathrooms add convenience to comfort.

Having a relaxed atmosphere to discuss the days skiing, in an informal après environment, is also near the top of our list. In both our lodges we have areas to suit, whether it be the Bitter Creek Café at our Ripley Creek Inn, or the dining room, lounge and bar at the Bell 2 Lodge. In either setting, you can kick back, tell stories and revisit the day’s action.

We feel eating should be a social event, and in either venue meal times can be the focal point of an evening. These are great times to get to know other fellow heli skiers a bit better, grill our staff for information and stories, or just relax with close friends or family. Because both of our lodges only hold a small number of guests at a time, you can be sure of an intimate experience when you stay with us.

And last, but by no means least, is the overall feel of the lodgings in which you will be spending your downtime. Our Ripley Creek Inn, for example, and the Bitter Creek Café just across the road, has a slightly historic feel. They work with the charm and character of Stewart, where they are located. The Bell 2 Lodge, on the other hand, feels like a little self-contained community, with each of the log chalets being dotted around the main dining and lounge building. Out in the midst of the Canadian wildness, these chalets offer a rustic charm, with all the modern facilities of first-class hotels.
